Where Science and Story ignite the Genius in every Child.
What does class look like in a school dedicated to inspiring children to ask "What If?" Simply amazing. Each morning, we gather to talk about what we have noticed in our world, what we learned the day before, what we imagine we might create if we put our minds together. Then we get to it!
Typical Classroom Schedule
8:30 Children begin arriving and are invited to play freely in various interest areas (dramatic play, music, fine motor, art, reading, science, sensory, and blocks) while teachers greet families and talk with children individually or in small, self-organized groups.
9:15 Group circle time gathers children together for body-centering exercises, singing, school readiness tasks, and reflection of both home and school activities.
9:45 Curriculum activities are offered in most interest areas with specific social-emotional goals and play-based exploration through Art, Science, and Story - Blocks, Paint Easels, Screwdrivers, Sewing Needles, Masking Tape, Clay, Microphones, Dress Up, Drums, Eye Droppers, and Balance Beams... Beautiful, natural materials provide the canvas. Funny, bright, curious friends lay down patterns both steady and spontaneous.
10:15 Children restore our classrooms to order and prepare to share snack together.
10:30 Snack is shared family style. After clearing their places, children read quietly.
11:00 Outside Time and all the big body, investigative goodness Nature has to offer us in every season!
11:50 We return to the classroom to check in with each other and begin our transition to home or afternoon class.
12:15 Children depart or begin eating lunch (provided from home) together if staying for afternoon class. Younger children or those still in need of sedentary rest times will be invited to lay down on cots in a dimly lit area with soft, recorded music after eating. Books, blankets, and soft toys will be allowed as long as they do not disrupt other children.
1:00 At our afternoon class welcoming and check-in Circle, older children identify project work goals, discuss new activities and gather materials for experiments and reporting methods.
1:20 Curriculum activities are offered in most interest areas with specific school readiness goals and project work focus through Art, Science and Story: Investigative surveys and detective storytelling, construction crews and emergency response pretending, community service, planting and harvesting and preserving all find their place in our seasonally aware classroom.
2:30 Music and Theater bring us all back together as we play instruments, sing, recite poetry, and perform short story plays for each other.
3:00 We share snack together again family style. Afterwards, all children are invited to play freely in various interest areas (dramatic play, music, fine motor, art, reading, science, and blocks).
3:40 Children restore our classrooms to order and prepare to transition home, usually with a favorite story read aloud by the teacher or classmate.
4:00 Children and parents are reunited and depart for family time!
**** An afternoon Outside Time will occur everyday as we simply move our activities and selves out!
